The film explores the culture of Chicanos, and specifically the Pachucos in the 1940's in Los Angeles, largely through an interview with the RCAF’s José Montoya. It ends with a look at present day Chicanas/os who are working to recapture their past, which has been largely written out of history books. It includes footage of the opening of Montoya’s seminal exhibition, “Pachuco Art: A Historical Update” in 1977.
La Raza Galeria Posada is grateful to Special Collections at the Stanford Library for preserving, digitizing, and making Joseph Camacho’s film available for viewing onsite. We also appreciate Joseph’s brother, Jaime Camacho’s permission to screen the film at the Crocker Art Museum.
